Last month some girls from Chandigarh were arrested that are involved in drug peddling. These girls came in this business because they were unemployed and want more money to live better life.     Injectable medicines:

    According to the recent police report the injectable medicines that are banned in city recovered from the drug peddlers. Increasing number of cases of these banned injections are showing that drug problem is getting worst and it will kill our youth slowly and our administration is not taking some strict action toward this problem. In 2014 there are around 1834 injections were recovered of banned medicines, in 2016 around 1685 injections were recovered and now in 2017 around 2750 injections are found that was in possession of drug peddlers.

    Benefits drug peddlers are getting from these banned medicines

    drug  peddlers are getting huge amount from these banned drugs because they get these drugs by paying least amount but they sell these drugs to the victim by charging more. The police report submitted before the Punjab and Haryana high court in February 2017 had pointed out the increase in the substance abuse, particularly of the synthetic drugs in Chandigarh. Police claim that margin of profit is very high as the drug suppliers buy these injections at throw away prices and sell them at much higher rate. according to Police sources sale of banned injections in the city has witnessed an increase with a rise among drug addicts in colonies and villages, who are from fairly economically-weaker background. The banned injections in city are sold at price ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 300.

    According to the Chandigarh police that victims are purchasing these drugs from slum area of Chandigarh that include Dhanas village, Milk Colony in Dhanas, Dadu Majra colony, Sector-38 (West), Sector-56, Bapu Dham colony, Manimajra, Mauli Jagran and other outer-inner areas of the city. Many of suppliers here are operating from SAS Nagar, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ambala towns as adjoining places of Chandigarh.

    Places where drugs are manufactured:

    According to Police there are some places in Himachal Pradesh where these drugs are mostly manufactured like Manali, Kullu, and Mandi. From there these drugs are supplied to other parts like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar pradesh.

    In summers mosquito is the most annoying pest that troubles us very much and causes many serious diseases like malaria and dengue. A single mosquito bite can spread these diseases, which can cause fever, chills, nausea, and in some cases death. But now UT Administration is planning to make Chandigarh Malaria free by 2018, their new target is to make city free from malaria and they are going to take some strict actions that will help in eradication.UT Administration is planning to make Chandigarh Malaria Free By 2018

    Steps to make city malaria free:

    Strict surveillance: Around 100 people will be deployed for strict surveillance and they will check every house in the city. They will also check the mosquitos breeding sites.

    Awareness campaign: Information education activities will be organized in school colonies and high-risk areas. Also, they will take help of short films to spread awareness of the disease.

    Targeting migratory population: According to the reports, most of the cases reported in the migratory population who bring a disease from their hometowns. So main focus will be on the migratory population.

    A Nodal officer in every UT department: A nodal officer will be appointed in every UT departments and that officer will ensure about the mosquitos breeding around that area.

    Notified disease: All private and government health department will inform nodal officer about a new case of malaria.

    Helpline number: The helpline number is 9779558282 and people can call on this number for taking more information about the disease and also tell about mosquito breeding spots.

    Rules For Prevention of Malaria:

    UT health department is planning to amend the rules for the prevention and to control malaria, dengue, 2014, and they are going to make laws more strict. Presently, the challan fees for the defaulters is only Rs 500 but they are going to increase it by June this year. The department is all set to take stern actions against the defaulters and will seal the places where mosquito breeding is found positive.

    Yuvraj Singh

    Yuvraj Singh another well known Cricketer of Indian cricket team hails from Chandigarh. He is known as Yuvi among his fans. Yuvraj born on 12 December 1981 in Chandigarh and did his schooling from DAV public school, Chandigarh. Everyone is a fan of his 6 sixes that he hit in one over in ICC world Twenty20 match in 2007. He is awarded Arjuna award and Padma Shri award.

    Milkha Singh

    Milkha Singh was born on 20 November 1929 according to records in Pakistan and popularly known as the Flying Sikh. He won gold medals in 1958 and 1962 in Asian games. His life is also portrayed in a Bollywood film “Bhaag Milka Bhaag”.

    Nek Chand (Late)

    Nek Chand who is the curator of Chandigarh famous Rock garden, a famous tourist place here. He born on 15 December 1924 in Pakistan but after partition, his family moved to Chandigarh then Nek Chand found work here as a roads inspector for the Public Works Department in 1951. He was awarded Padma Shri in 1984.

    Vivek Shauq (Late)

    Shauq was born on 21 June 1963 in Chandigarh and died in 2011. He was known for his acting, comedy, and writing. He had acted in Hindi and Punjabi films, television serials, theater and television commercials. 

    Ayushman Khurrana

    Ayushmann Khurrana is the another famous name of Chandigarh, who was born on 14th September 1984. At the age of 20, he won roadies in 2004. This Chandigarh boy is also an actor, singer, author and RJ. He is known for his movie “Vicky Donor”.

    Crime in Tricity is increasing and daily news of rape, stalking, and harassment is coming to limelight. Here in Tricity for the protection of girls, there are helpline numbers. It is good that there are such numbers where we can call when we are feeling some threat. But if no one is responding when a girl or women need help or if cops are coming late then there is no use of such numbers. 

    Recently the civil hospital’s one-stop crisis center has found out that the police stations and helpline for women have delayed and inadequate response. These lukewarm responses are the reason of increasing crime in the city. if police will not get strict action against criminals then how they will stop the crime and how they will provide protection to women. Police stations and helpline should provide proper services at the time of need, otherwise, there is no use these services.

    Lukewarm response from helpline numbers:

    • An official from the center said that not police and helpline take the call seriously.
    • The cops either come over late or ask you to send a complaint.
      The helpline teams don’t respond properly,” an official from the center said.
    • According to the center counselor that on 11 April they called the police to a take statement of a woman who was victim and police came four hours late.
    • The police stations are failed to prevent crime because of their lukewarm response. The women’s and child development department outsourced the helpline number but police is not managing it properly
    • According to the center’s report cops and helpline operators do nothing only pass the buck.

    Counselor reports to CJM:

    The counselor listed seven cases, in which she called 1091 helpline number and not get any response. The CJM forwarded her complaint to the civil and police administration. After this Police confirmed that there would be no lukewarm responses and police will deploy a woman cop at the center and also quicken their responses.

    • Mr. Saini who is the landscaper and a member of the Rock Garden Society, designing the mini-rock garden in Rajbhawan.
    • UT has also identified a place to install all the sculpture on the left side while entering the main gate of Raj Bhawan.
    • All the famous sculptures of the garden will be installed at Raj Bhawan
    • The plan is to install sculptures of ducks, peacocks, dogs, wolves and deer.
    • Sculptures that they are going to install will be made of concrete, steel reinforcement, and waste material.
