    Traffic and vehicles are increasing in the tricity and this is leading to the traffic rule violations and crossing the red light is the most common violations that are committing on the city road. Again the city witnessed a hit and run violation and this time Police constable injured in a hit and run case in Chandigarh.

    What was the incident?

    In this hit-and-run case UT traffic police got injured because of the motorist who jumped the red light, and rushed away from there, this incident happened near transport light point in sector 26. According to the sources, the victim, Constable Jai Parkash, was on duty and  a car hit him that was coming from the grain market side and jumped the red light and sped away towards the Railway light point.

    How the constable rescued:

    Constable Jai Prakash rescued by Head Constable Naresh Kumar who was on duty at the light point. When he saw the incident, he rushed toward the victim for helping him. After that injured constable was taken to the PGI in the private vehicle. According to the police that at that time they were unable to note down the registration number of the car, but police have registered a case.

    The number of hit and run cases are increasing and according to the reports around 353 hit and run cases in Chandigarh are untraced from 2012-2016. Mostly after every accident police register the case but unable to trace the accused. But now Panjab University has offered an idea to commission for starting a laboratory to find out all possible ways to conserve this creation of Corbusier. Sukhna lake will get free from weeds and sludge with the help of this laboratory set up.

    Solutions to clean Sukhna lake:

    Microbiology department of Punjab university has suggested some solutions improve the health of the water body.

    • In Sukhna Lake weeds are a problem from September to February and from March to August. This Lake spreads over 25.42 km and every year, weeds are removed manually by the administration. According to them certain microorganisms and microbial enzymes can be developed to remove the weeds.
    • Some non-toxic chemicals and micronutrients, which can help in the reduction of penetration of light in the lake and also help to increase dissolved oxygen. Increased level of oxygen will help to suppress the growth of weeds.
    • The number of useful microorganisms in the water can be increased. This should restore the lake.
    • They also gave suggestion to built a stone wall around the lake to control erosion, because this also helps in the weed growth.
    • Deployment of a full-time expert should be there to track the growth of weeds and other vegetation and a lake authority set up.
    • Most of the times there is the excess accumulation of nutrients in the form of organic matter in the lake. Nutrients near check dams should also be controlled.

    To check on increasing crime in Mohali, municipal corporation and greater Mohali area development authority (GMADA) are planning to install the CCTV cameras to record the crime in the city. These cameras will be very helpful to record all the activities and will work 24×7. Police and corporation are planning to install cameras traffic light areas and market areas. These “CCTV surveillance will help the city residents and increase their safety, traffic violation will also prevent, it will also help to identify the criminals especially those who absconded after attempting crime.Mohali is going to install CCTV cameras to record crime

    Mohali CCTV camera project cost:

    The Control room for monitoring the cameras will be located at the Phase 8 police station. Total amount decided to spend on these CCTV cameras is 1,90 crore. GMADA has already issued some amount to the private company for the initiation of the project. For the installation of cameras, police have divided Mohali into four parts.

    Installation points and purpose of Cameras:

    1. The installation of these CCTV cameras has been done to make the city safer place to live and to check on the increasing crime.
    2. The decision to install CCTV cameras are taken because of increasing incidents of theft, burglary, snatching, traffic violations, etc.
    3. Total 104 cameras are going to install in the city and 24 points have decided for installation. Phase 7 market, 3B2, Phase 5 market, and at almost every major traffic-light stop.
    4. The cameras will be monitored on a single screen which will also look after traffic and other incidents in the city. 104 CCTV cameras will be monitored 24×7 by dedicated police staff.

    Nowadays crime in the city is increasing and Mohali is witnessing murder, theft, rape and traffic violation. And the administration is concerned with the safety of the residents, so they are planning to install an eye on walls that will protect people.

    The blind students to get another privilege in the City Beautiful from next academic session. Blind students studying in government colleges of the city to be exempted from paying any course fee. Approximately 20-30 students enroll in these colleges under various courses to get this benefit of not paying the course fee from session 2017-2018. Fee exemption of Blind Students in Chandigarh to occur for the welfare of the students studying apart from these difficulties.

    The proposal has been approved by the UT Higher Education Department of Chandigarh and soon a notification shall be sent to all the colleges for implementation. All the government colleges are expected to follow this rule for the blind students.

    The Dean of DAV College B K Vermani reported that there are 10 blind students in the college for various courses. The student has to pay only Rs 500 annually for his admission. the other expenses, including hostel fees, are borne by the college management. This is the policy for blind students by the college management.

    The principal of GGDSD College, Sector 32 Bhushan K Sharma, detailed that there are three blind students in the college. There is a special set up for these students where they have a mentor and computers with Braille software for academic support and other purposes. Though they haven’t received any information regarding this from UT Higher Education Department but still they do this for the students welfare.

    So this is a great opportunity for all the blind students in the city, you simply have to enroll yourself and the expenses will be borne by the college management.

    The UT Administration had sent the proposal last year to the Ministry of Home Affairs, however, the file was lying in the office for a year. And now, when Sanjay Tandon met Rajnath Singh at  Bhubaneswar, words marked by Rajnath was that if the file is in his office then he shall surely look forward to work for it. The city BJP chief has also been asked to meet MOS Home who takes care of UT to follow up in the case

    The city BJP chief Sanjay Tandon has been invited to meet MOS Home who actually deals with UT for talking about this matter. Earlier in 2008, the Housing Board of Chandigarh had suggested a special housing scheme meant for the employees of UT. Approximately 4,000 flats for employees were expected to be constructed in Sector 52, 53 and 56. The main aim beyond this scheme was to lay out flats to employees the on no-profit-no-loss basis, which was much below the market value.

    Well, there were no flats constructed as of non-availability of land. In a total of 8,000 employees had applied for this scheme in which only 3,930 employees were declared to get houses.

    • 888 two-bedroom flats to be built
    • 564 one-bedroom flats to be built
    • 320 one-room flats were to be built

According to the labourer in village,baby were crying and mosquitoes were biting her at the time when they found her unattended under the tree. They said  for sometime they tried to find her parents near the location where she found abandoned, but in vain. Then they informed their land lord Gurjant Singh and then he called police rapid response team. At the time baby was not at the good condition, so  they took her to the civil hospital.     • Now every home in city will get two dustbins and processing of garbage will be done to produce electricity and manure. With the help of this there will be no dumping of garbage in dumping grounds, whole garbage will use to convert into energy.
    • All homes will be provided with two dustbin of 12 kg both and residents will dump garbage on the bases of dry and wet state of the garbage. Then all the trash will be send to the processing unit directly with the help transportation.In the processing unit, with the help of anaerobic processes, garbage will convert  to the energy and manure.     Cost for the garbage management proposal:

    The total amount decided to spend on this proposal is 3 crore, and for this corporation will get 30% subsidy from ministry of urban development. Under this, residents will be able to buy 120 rupees dustbin in 90 rupees. But if corporation house will pass the 3 crore rupees agenda then residents will get two free dustbins. But it is not decided yet that how residents will get the dustbin free or in 90 rupees.
