Chandigarh: City Is Facing Water Crisis Due To Non-Functional Tubewells
As summer is on aggressive mode and city is facing water crisis due to non-functional tubewells. But the Chandigarh municipal corporation is doing nothing to start non-functional tubewells in the city. Not only tube wells are non-functional but MC is unable to replace all the old batteries and generators, which are of no use. A majority of non-functional tube wells are either in colonies, villages or in the southern sector.

Defunct tube wells and water crisis:
- 87 MGD City’s available water 67 MGD comes from the Kajauli canal while the rest 20 MGD is withdrawn through tube wells. this is the reason why the city is facing water crisis due to non-functional tubewells.
- According to Chandigarh MC report, around 26 of 248 tube wells are non-functional or abandoned.
- Shortage of 2-4 million gallons per day of water due to these non-functional or abandoned tubewells.
- This problem arisen because there is no inspection of tube wells after 2012 and the then chairman of the water supply committee and Congress councilor, Mukesh Bassi, had visited various tube wells and practice to improve the tubewell followed only in the same year.
- Only 204 tube wells from total 248 are under the supervisory control and data acquisition system that provide a daily report regarding the operation of tubewells.
Drive against water wastage:
- To check on the wastage of water in this summer season MC has started a drive from April 1.
- Most of the people waste water to wash their cars in the morning hours and also use lots of water on their lawns. MC imposed the ban on this to stop the water wastage from April 1.
- MC also announced fine of rupees 2000 in case if anyone tries to break the rule. This is done to stop the wastage of water in the city.
- There is good news that city will get additional 40 million gallons per day of water through kajauli to Chandigarh pipeline by 2019.
Delhi-Chandigarh route of Railways to upgrade their speed to 200 kmph
The Delhi-Chandigarh route of Railways is one of the busiest routes as many people travel from the City Beautiful to the Capital City. After the launch of 160 kmph Chandigarh-Agra train, the railways is out to initiate 200 kmph train to reduce the travel time.

This project seems to be first semi-high speed railways to run train at maximum speed of 200 kmph. Railways soon shall be upgrading the other corridors as well namely, Delhi-Agra, Delhi- Chandigarh under semi-high speed project.

Other Routes to Upgrade their Speed

Several other routes also to raise their speeds for reducing the travel time are Delhi-Kanpur, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai, Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Chennai-Hyderabad and Nagpur-Secunderabad at 160/200 kmph.

The French railways will submit the all the details of cost regarding semi-high speed project upgradation as soon as possible and it shall be executed and implemented for 245 km Chandigarh route. The team shall deposit all the details by October this year which aims to reduce the time travel and upgrade the existing track of running trains.

Estimate Cost to Upgrade the Speed

To upgrade the running trains to 200 kmph speed it is estimated to cost around 10,000 crores that is approximately 46 crores per kilometre including rolling stock, and signal and track upgradation on the Chandigarh corridor.

PGI Chandigarh Warning To Latecomer Doctors

At present in PGIMER there is no system for the attendance of doctors but now PGI got strict and already warned the latecomer to come on time otherwise strict action will be taken against them. Doctors of PGIMER will soon mark their attendance and now the time of their entry and exiting will be noticed.

Administration officials said that we have requested doctors to come on time to manage the rush of patients in OPD. Hospital OPD opening timing is 8am but not all doctor come on time and this make long queues of patients and then it is very tough to manage these patients. Many patients from adjoining states including himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab come here for treatment and because of late coming doctors they have to stay in queues for long time.

The PGIMER administration has confirmed that a three-month period will be given to the doctors and habitual late comers will be issued warning notes. “If we can charge sheet doctors guilty of research misconduct, this issue can also be tackled,” said an official.

Doctors are overburdened:

Doctors say that they are overburdened, according to the figures by the PGIMER there are 1,181 doctors and at any given time 900-1,000 of them man the OPDs. Also, there are around 6,731 OPD patients implying that the doctor-to-patient ratio is 1:8. Officials are saying that have increased the strength, if doctors will come on time then they would be able to manage it.

This process of taking a bribe is recorded in the mobile camera when a swift car coming from Kharar was stopped by police because a person named Sachin who was driving car was talking on the phone. Interceptor vehicle stopped him for violating traffic norms and then constable asked him to pay the challan of Rs 2500, but violator asked Mr. Dinesh to settle everything by taking 500 rupees. Sachin who was not alone and was with his brother in the car and he made a video of the constable while he was asking the bribe.

A new hostel at Sector 11 College to open this Session in Chandigarh

The Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh to have a new hostel for the coming session 2017-2018. The hostel at Sector 11 College to accommodate around 400 students of the college.

The principal of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls announces the infrastructural additions as the new building is nearing completion, the new hostel to accommodate 400 students studying in the college from different parts of the country. Apart from the hostel, a seminar room is also being built in the college for next session.

The UT Higher Education Department has witnessed the long waiting list in the hostels of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11 and Post Graduate College, Sector 42 so the UT Department has thought of building new hostels in these colleges.

UT higher education has decided to start construction work of a hostel in Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46. At present, the students are staying in extension building of working women hostel in Sector 24 and Home Science College in Sector 10.
