Chandigarh is Going To Organize India’s First Defense Literature Fest
We are grateful to live in this country, our country is not totally perfect but still, we get freedom and opportunities here. The credit of all our freedom and peace goes to our brave troops who are deployed on the border and getting bullets to protect us. Indian authors have written many books or literature about the sacrifices, challenges soldiers are facing from their day to day life, and many more stories about their bravery in the wars, but no one has done any analysis about this on a bigger platform.

In January 2017 on the launch of book “Be Lag Lapet” UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore has called for a literature fest that should be devoted to armed forces personnel. Badnore said that defense literature fest is an ideal platform to share the sacrifices and experiences of defense personnel. The country never organizes any exclusive fest on the defense literature but now Chandigarh is going to organize India’s first defense literature fest on 27 October 2017. Many famous authors, defense experts, and retired army officers are going to take part in defense-fest.

The reason to organize this fest is that defense literature should reach common man and there should be the discussion between country’s intellectualists, army officers and our youth about defense literature. This fest will be bigger as Jaipur Literature Fest that had held in January 2017. To organize defense literature fest, Chandigarh and Punjab governments will play a great role and also take the help of retired army officers who are residents of tricity.

Chandigarh administration has given the responsibility of this event to tourism department and nautanki box firm. Panjab University Convocation 2017: Vice President to be in City Tomorrow

The 66th Annual Convocation of the Panjab University is scheduled to be held on March 26th, 2017. The Chief Guest for the Convocation Ceremony will be Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Hon’ble Vice-President of India, who is also the Chancellor of Panjab University. The Vice-President will present the degrees to the awardee, meritorious students of the university, and will also deliver the annual convocation address.

On this occasion, Ansari will confer five Honoris Causa Degrees on eminent icons, viz Dr N S Kapani (DSc), Prof Murli Manohar Joshi (DLitt), Prof G S Khush (DSc), Justice J S Khehar (LLD), Dr Nuruddin Farah (DLitt). Besides this, Sahitya Rattan will be awarded to Professor Dalip Kaur Tiwana, Kala Rattan to Anupam Kher and Vigyan Rattan Dr P D Gupta.

The University has enforced strict security measures in view of the Vice-President’s visit. The VVIP route from Gate No. 1, via Admin Block, Chemistry Department, and Physics department road up to Gymnasium Hall, will be a ‘no-vehicle’ zone. this route will be closed for public from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on 25th March. No vehicles will be allowed to be parked on roads inside the campus throughout.

Chandigarh LGBTQ Pride Walk 2017: Celebrating the Gender & Sexual Diversity

The Student Center at Panjab University is all in the colors of rainbow these days! And so are all the smiling faces, bursting with pride. Reason? The LGBTQ Pride Week, 2017 is in full swing. As part of the ongoing Pride Week, Garvostava 2017, the LGBTQ community of Chandigarh is also set to hold the 5th edition of the LGBTQ pride walk, The Chandigarh LGBTQ Pride Walk 2017, on March 26th, 2017.

The LGBTQ Pride Week 2017 is being organized by the Saksham Trust and Alankar Theatre Chandigarh, in collaboration with HAMSAFAR TRUST Mumbai, the Canadian Embassy, SCRUFF, ROTARACT CLUB and PANJAB UNIVERSITY.

As part of the week-long celebration of the pride of the LGBTQ community in Chandigarh, a plethora of events are being held, all with the underlying theme of upliftment and inclusion of the LGBTQ community. There are seminars, lectures, discussions, street plays, film screenings, dance, music and much more. The aim is to make the voices heard and celebrate the individuality, to spread the warmth of the rainbow!

The sexual and gender diversity will be celebrated, out and open on the roads of Chandigarh when the week-long festival will come to a grand end with the Chandigarh LGBTQ Pride Walk 2017, on March 26th.

The Pride Walk on 26th March will start from the Student Center, Panjab University and will conclude at the Sector 17 Plaza, marching through the major roads and junctions of the city beautiful. The Chandigarh LGBTQ Pride Walk 2017 is the only such walk in North West India, except for Delhi.

Phoenix an IT Fest at GGDSD College Chandigarh

The Department of Information Technology, GGDSD College wrapped up with an I.T Fest on 22nd March 2017 Phoenix. The festival was a high profile event which attracted students from colleges in and around Chandigarh to compete on big scale and showcase their talent.

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr.Jitender Yadav, Director of higher education and Director of IT and UT Administration.Guest of honour was Mr.Mandeep Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Excise and Tax Department of India and MR.Rajeev Sharma who is presently Deputy General Manager, Central Bank Of India.

The Guest Appearance for the event was made by “Harp Farmer” who is a famous Punjabi model for the promotions of his upcoming movie KAWELA which is going to release on 31 March 2K17.

“THE LANDERS” Famous Punjabi singer were also witnessed along with their team and it was a great site of attraction for audience dance to the beats of their famous song like JAIL FAIL and much more.

RJ Abhimanyu from 92.7 my FM also performed in the event and it was a proud moment for all the SDians as he is the alumni of our college.The audience was full of excitement and enthusiasm.

Various Inter College Events also took place like Collage making, Rangoli Competition, IT Presentation, Algahna (Singing), fixit (IT Debugging), Counter Strike (Go) and on stage events like Bhangra Competition etc also took place. The interesting fact about the events was that the names given to the performances were innovative like tweek, twitter, cloud etc.

Modeling also took place on the basis of which Mr and Miss Phoenix were chosen. MR.PHOENIX was Vishwas Rajpal and MISS.PHOENIX was Himani. Infomaths Quiz also took place between students of different colleges and the winners were awarded trophies.
