About Chandigarh Golf Club– Swing Easy and Play Well

Chandigarh Golf Club has been designed by 4-time Open Championship winner, Peter Thomson (golfer). and is an 18-hole course which is spread across almost 7,202 yards. Set against the backdrop of Shivalik hills, it makes for a fitting course for people in the city who love golfing and haven’t been able to get membership to a particular club.

This golf club not only offers a good time for playing the sport and socializing with your golf pals or going solo, it also provides learning sessions that are open to both children and adults.

Let’s dig into it’s History…

During late 1959, Pandit Nehru, the first PM of Free India wanted to visit Chandigarh. His visit was postponed as the chief commissioner that time went on a golfing holiday to Delhi. Pandit Nehri being highly surprised that ” people have to travel to Delhi to play Golf, why can’t Chandigarh have Chandigarh have its own Golf Course?” This is how a golf course came into existence in Chandigarh.

Established in 1969, the Chandigarh Golf Club is among the most premier ones in India. The Golf Club in Chandigarh is also home to one of the longest par-5s in India, the seventh hole, which measures 613 yards. The master plan was predicted by the famous French architect, Le Corbusier and the foundation stone for the club was laid by Sh. Dharam Vira on April 24th, 1969. The place shares boundaries with the popular Sukhna Lake and the Punjab & Haryana governors residents in the beautiful sector 6 of Chandigarh.

It has a 7,202 yard, 18 hole course known for its challenging narrow fairways, a long 613 yard long, dogleg 7th hole, floodlighting on the first nine holes, and a main road crossing.

Home to Professional Golfers

The club has been home to some fine professional golfers, the most noted being Jeev Milkha Singh, the winner or 2006 Asian Tour Order of Merit Winner and the first Indian to compete on the European Tour and at the Masters. Besides that, it is also home to Shubahkar Sharma, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Ajitesh Sandhu, Harinder Gupta, Gurbaaz Mann, Akshay Sharma are some of the names which are making waves in the national as well as International circuits.

At the club, certified golf professionals and coaches teach aspiring golfers about techniques and equipment used in the sport for a commendable show, enabling them to surprise everyone with their expertise to swing.

The Chandigarh Golf Club has a varied delicacies restaurant on the first floor with a 100 persons seating capacity. Additionally, with 2 well-stocked bars.

Other facilities

The club has a fine clubhouse, an all-weather heated swimming pool and a gymnasium for its 2300 members. Membership is notoriously difficult to get, with waiting periods running into tens of years. Apart from this, a gymnasium with sauna and steam, family room for club functions and private parties.

Activities Held

Among the activities that the club holds with a regular frequency for its members is the annual Captain’s Day, which is the premier event of the club, apart from the monthly Club Night and the weekly tambola.

Who can Play Golf at Chandigarh Golf Club?

One definitely needs a membership if wants to play golf for long term at the club. And, membership is notoriously difficult to get, with waiting periods running into tens of years. Additionally, non-members can also pay a fee to practice golf and that will be on daily basis. Hence, one can golf for pleasure or as a profession.

Now, there are 3 types of members:

• Temporary- They are the members who have just entered the list of registered applicants.
• Green Card- As one starts picking up the game, it takes 3-4 years to become a green card member.
• Permanent- Further, it takes 3-4 years to become a permanent member.

The fee applicable will be according to the following categories.

• Weekdays– $50 +18%GST
• Weekends- $75+18%GST

Practice fee– For all categories in INR 50 on weekdays, and INR 70 on weekends. This fee is applicable on per day basis.

NOTE: Green Fee will be half for senior citizens( above 65 years of age)

Keen golfers can play from 5:00 Am to 10:30 PM.

Open- Tuesday to Sunday.

Closed- on Mondays

For Summer

• 1. Formal
• Shirt- Full/Half Sleeves ( Tucked in)
• T-shirt with Collar ( Tucked in)

• Turban for Silk men is obligatory

• Long suit/combination-blazer-Nehru-Jacket with Trousers, socks & shoes /tie or scarf/turban for Sikh Gentlemen obligatory.
• Kurta with collar and button down cuffs with churidar pyjama with waist/coat/ achkan/ jacket with socks and shoes.
• Salwar Kameez with button down cuffs with sandals with straps.
