In Chandigarh Sector 44 thieves stole around Rs. 22000 and medicines from Ayurvedic medicine shop. To hide their identity they threw the digital video recorder (DVR) connected to the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras into the water. Nowadays such cases are coming to limelight where thieves are trying to outsmart the police by harming CCTV cameras from the crime spot because they know that this can conceal their identity. Till now it is not clear that how many people were involved in the crime.

This theft occurs at Vardhan Ayurvedic and Herbal Medicines Private Limited, Sector 44 and people know about the theft in the morning when its staff member opened the door of the shop. When he came to know about the theft he immediately informed the Police at around 9 am. They entered the shop after opening the door leading to the roof. They broke the hinges of an internal door while locks of the main door were found intact. To hide their identity they tried to damage the DVR cameras by throwing them in water. Previously, in the case of theft in Sai Baba temple in the Sector 29, Chandigarh thieves painted the CCTV cameras and many more cases came to limelight where thieves tried to harm CCTV cameras.

Thieves stole around 22000, medicines and four mobile phones. According to the Police, Thieves had full knowledge about the places where CCTV was installed and that’s the reason they turned the position of the CCTVs and also tried to destroy DVR. Police said they are trying to retrieve the CCTV footage but it will take some time because DVR was found in water.

The objective of Chandigarh administration ensures to maintain law and order in the city and always make promises to get away from the traffic offenses with help of CCTV cameras that are installed in the different traffic junctions to stop drivers to speeding and acting aggressively, but everything is seeming in vain because of the nonfunctional cameras.

Non-Functional CCTV Cameras At The Traffic Junction:

UT administration is deeply thinking about smart solutions for the traffic control but most of the installed cameras at the traffic junction are non-functional then how the administration would maintain the law and order in the city. This is the big challenge to the administration’s objectives. Around 100 cameras are installed at various sites in the city to capture about traffic but only 42 is working and others are non-functional. This is the matter of concern because the safety of residents is at stake. According to police, they were hoping that with these cameras it would be easy to check the movement of traffic and would easily track the traffic violators but only 42 cameras are working.

Intelligent Traffic Solutions Project:

UT is planning about the intelligent traffic solutions project and under this project around 600 CCTV will be installed to protect the city residents. But in present condition, there are 100 cameras in the city but only some of them are working. This smart solution also includes hi-tech CCTV cameras with night vision capacity and ability to capture vehicles number plate. The cameras will also be equipped with technology such as face recognition and face matching. But firstly UT have to work on the non-functional cameras that are installed in the city.

Reasons to install camera outdoor

This move has taken to check on the footfalls that are increasing day by day in the PGI. This is impossible for the security person to keep eye on each and every incident and person. Vehicle theft is the bigger problem according to security officials of PGI. Now, most of the camera would be installed in the exit places of vehicles to check the activities.

PGI security chief officer PC Sharma said that these cameras will help patients, security staff and also help to control the traffic. In campus, approximately 11000 vehicles come daily and due to this there is the traffic problem but with the help of cameras, the control room will get to know that which area has more traffic and then security staff can go there to control traffic.
