The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) elections will be held on December 24. UT Election Commissioner SK Srivastava declared the date of the elections and said that the counting of votes will be held on December 27. The nomination process will begin from November 27 and will go on till December 4. According to the schedule, the inspection of nominations will be held on December 6 and the last date of withdrawal is December 9. MC Polls : Important Details
This year, Chandigarh MC Elections has increased the number of wards from 26 to 35 in the draft notification issued on November 27.
1. Total No. of Wards
First and foremost, the number of wards and booths have also been increased, keeping in mind the Covid-19 guidelines. The number of wards has been increased from 26 to 35 and polling booths have also been increased from 474 to 694.
2. Poll Schedule
Secondly, the poll timings will be from 7:30AM to 5:00PM.
3. Covid- 19 Arrangements
Further, special arrangements have been made for Covid-19 patients. On December 24, provision of one hour of voting will be given to Covid-19 patients. Arrangements have also been made for PPE kits and voters have to wear a mask and follow social distancing norms.
4. Mobile Application Launched
In addition, a mobile application has also been launched so that the voters can know about the candidates being fielded from various wards. Also, they can file complaints of violation of the moral code of conduct through this app.
