How Today’s Farmers Protest Affects Your Route in Tricity
Chandigarh December 30 Latest Updates
Two big Punjab farmer unions, KMM & SKM have called a statewide bandh, resulting in 150 trains cancelled and suspended bus services.
Roads adjacent to Mohali’s prime locations are closed, namely
- Bestech Square (Phase 11)
- CP67 Mall
- Mohali City Centre Aerocity (Airport Road, F Block closed)
- Homeland Quark
- Homeland Heights Regalia Chowk
- Homeland Heights chowk, and
- Airport Road at IISER Chowk in Mohali.
Besides, all internal roads of Chandigarh and Mohali are operational.
Major highways and marketplaces in Punjab have remained closed, and farmers have blocked important routes, such as the
- Kharar-Morinda Highway,
- the Ambala-Delhi Highway Toll Plaza at Lalru,
- Kurali Road Toll Plaza, and
- Parts of Zirakpur highway
Over 200 locations across Punjab face roadblocks due to the protest.
Police barricades and supporters of the protest have blocked all the roads outside Mohali. JCBs and Tractor Trolleys are the main sightings among empty, foggy routes.
36 trains, including both the Shatabdi Express trains via Kalka-Chandigarh to Delhi have been canceled. CTU Buses have been rescheduled rather than canceled.
Farmers’ Protest in full swing
To pressure the federal government to fulfill their demands, which include a legal guarantee for a minimum support price (MSP) for crops, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM, Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) called for the closure, which would be observed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Around 200 locations on highways and connection roads will see chakka jams (congestion) caused by farmer unions, thus both private and public buses will stay off the road. Meanwhile, non-political leaders KMM and SKM have declared their intention to block railway tracks in 50 sites.
